Introduced to the Natives by the Conquistadors in the 1500's the horse quickly became indispensable to their tribes. Adorned with decorative eagle feathers and painted with symbols such as the moon for brotherhood, the spiral for migration and the Sun for it's heavenly guidance. Horses brought pageantry and power to those who harnessed their spirit. Painted Ponies running near the Rio Grande River, Sandia Mountains in the background.

The equal four sides, represents the four directions, and the four stages of life; birth, child, adult, death. Half square triangles represent a Maze design for a safe journey. The color red, represents Mother Earth, as much of the land of New Mexico and Arizona, home of the Pueblo Indians, is a stunning red/brown color. Steps represent the Kiva Steps. The Kiva is the spiritual Center of the Pueblo villages, much like a church or town square is the center of many American town neighborhoods. Color blue represents the incredible crystal clear sky we all enjoy in the Southwest. Downward triangle represents lightning in the sky. Color White represents the clouds forming rain. Speckled coloring represents the brown, red, black & yellow colors in a corn field.
